Ramalingam Murder Case – PFI Member Mohammad Faruk Arrested By NIA Officials In Trichy

A member of the Islamist outfit Popular Front of India, Mohammad Faruk, has been taken into custody in Tamil Nadu by National Investigation Agency (NIA) sleuths for his alleged role in the murder of Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) functionary V Ramanlingam in February, reports Hindustan Times.

The agency had previously searched around 20 locations, among them residences of some of the accused persons, and had also seized certain incriminating items. Faruk’s house was also searched and a digital device has been taken by officials from there.

“Faruk will be produced before the special NIA Court on Saturday. He and other accused had hatched a criminal conspiracy to commit a terror act following which they chopped off the hands of Ramalingam, who later succumbed to injuries on February 6. Accused persons in this case are PFI/SDPI cadres. Tamil Nadu Police had earlier arrested 10 accused in this case. Six other accused are still absconding,” an NIA spokesperson stated.

Ramalingam is believed to have been killed for his role in trying to stop the proselytising activities of an Islamist group in a Dalit Hindu locality.
