Veda Pathashala threatened in Hyderabad, Hindu solidarity protects
Hyderabad (VSK): The Veda pathashala is being run by Shashibhushan Sharma ji (President) and K. Sitarama Ghanapathi ji (Vice-president) for three years now, with the assistance of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) and donors from Telengana. Thirty two students are studying in this pathashala located in a rented one-storeyed building in RNS colony, Bodduppal, Hyderabad. In order to celebrate its 3rd anniversary on December 3rd 2017, the organizers of the pathashala booked a Ganesh Mandapa situated in the same colony.
On 23rd of November, Bommak Murali, a film producer and president of the RNS colony, telephonedSri Shashibhushan Sharma and demanded he should either shut the pathashala down or relocate itat the earliest to ‘some jungle’. He claimed that the recitation of the vedas was disturbing the sleep of the residents in the colony and causing ‘sound pollution’. Taking advantage of the polite silence of Sri Sharma, Mr. Murali went on to abuse the Vedas and questioned their relevance for current times. Sri Sharma politely replied that it would take some time to relocate 32 students. The conversation ended there.
However, Mr. Murali called again on the following day, verbally abused Sri Sharma, issued threats and gave an ultimatum to vacate the premises within 2 days, promising forcible eviction if he failed to comply. Sharmajiresponded mildly and reasoned that it would be difficult to relocate 32 young students (aged 7-16) at such short notice. This is when Mr. Murali asked him to throw the children into a river. He again questioned the need for teaching the Vedas in modern times. Driving himself into a frenzy of rage, he shouted: “…we don’t need the stench of Vedas…”
Mr. Murali behaved in an undignified and uncivilized manner, unbecoming of his reputation and stature, and position as president of the residential colony.
In response to the threats issued, recordings of two threatening telephonic conversations were submitted as evidence and an FIR was registered against Mr. Murali at the Medipally police station.
A rally in solidarity
In order to express the unity and solidarity of Hindus, a rally was organised fromthe local Mallikarjuna Swamy temple, Boduppal up to the pathashala. Around 500 individuals participated in the peaceful march. The rally passed a unanimous resolution that the pathashala would not be relocated.
As soon as this news spread in social media, a group claiming to be members of “Samatha Sainik Dal” started putting up abusive posts against members of VHP and RSSj. They specifically targetted the brahmin community.
“O RSS Goondas…!
If you try to disturb Bommak Murali, producer of Sharanam Gacchaami, we will cut your Pilakas (shikhas).
Chalo Boduppal R.N.S. Colony under the supervision of Samatha Sainika Dal and Dalit associations on December 3rd.”
End of translation.
Due to the physical threats extended to the children of the pathashala, different organisations have demanded that the government must provide security.
