Arrested accused confirms PFI link in Praveen Nettaru murder case

Bengaluru. The Karnataka police on Thursday arrested two persons from Dakshina Kannada district in connection with the murder. The accused have been identified as Zakir (29) from Savanoor in Haveri district and Mohammed Shafiq (27) from Bellare, Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Rishikesh Bhagawan Sonawane said.

The two arrested accused in connection with the murder of Praveen Nettaru confirmed possible links to PFI, police said on Thursday. The 32-year-old Yuva Morcha worker Praveen Nettaru was hacked to death by unidentified motorbike-borne assailants at Bellare in Sullia taluk.

According to Times Now, the arrested accused have confirmed their association with the PFI. The arrests have been made after questioning around 15 people in connection with the case.

As per the CCTV footage accessed by the TV channel, the assailants waited for about 40 minutes before attacking Nettaru.

Addressing a press conference in Sullia taluk of the district ADGP (Law and Order) Alok Kumar said six teams have been formed with the help of Mangaluru city police commissioner and Udupi police.

The murder led to tension and protests at several places in Dakshina Kannada district.

Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai called the murder “barbaric” and expressed his deep condolences to the family members of the BJP leader. He further assured them that justice will be served soon.

“The barbaric killing of our party activist Praveen Nettaru from Dakshina Kannada district is condemnable. The perpetrators of such a heinous act will be arrested soon and punished under the law. May Praveen’s soul rest in peace. May God bless his family with the strength to bear this pain. Om Shanti,” tweeted Bommai.
