Kerala. Askar Ali, who recently renounced Islam and held a press meet exposing extremist views of Islam received a death threat. He received a death threat while holding a press conference in Kollam with the officials of Essence Global, a scientific free think movement.
The death threats came in the form of comments following a news conference streaming on Essence’s YouTube channel. The comment below the live video was that ‘we will finish this man’. The footage was released by Essence officials.
This is not a country ruled by Islam. India is a democratic country. No religion can be imposed here, Essence officials said. They also questioned why those who call for freedom of expression and dress are not willing to give Askar freedom of speech.
Officials said such death threats were a challenge to the constitution. The Essence officials also shared their experience that once a complaint was lodged with the police about a death threat, the policeman asked them if he could say such things against religion.
