Spread the love

Chennai. During last year Covid Relief work, Bharati Seva Sangh volunteers distributed provision kits to various sections of the society. One such section was Barbers in K.K.Nagar area of Chennai. Seeing the relief work being carried out by BSS volunteers, they were very much moved and came into close contact. Some of the barbers worked with local Karyakartas during the Janajagaran Abhiyan carried out in the month of November 2020. This was followed by again working with Karyakartas during the Ramajanmabhoomi Fund Raising Campaign. Now, around 20 barbers are closely working with BSS in the Covid Relief work and out of them 6 are devoting time daily in the relief activities.

AMBULANCE DRIVER’S CONCERN FOR THE COVID PATIENTS

In Chennai, one of the services undertaken by BSS is assisting some hospitals in supply of oxygen concentrators, oxygen cylinders, ventilators etc. BSS also refers some covid patients to these hospitals for treatment and such hospitals are obliging most of the requests. During such relief work, an ambulance driver who came in contact, was very much impressed by the relief work being carried out by the volunteers. As a result, whenever the call goes to him for taking patients to the hospital, he used to oblige our request even if it is during odd hours.

One day, one of our Karyakarta telephoned him and said that a family of 4 persons is tested positive and two of them have to be shifted to the covid care centre and he was given the address and telephone numbers of the covid victims. The driver immediately telephoned the concerned persons and gave instructions on what precautions they should take before he reaches their home and throughout the journey was closely monitoring their condition. On reaching their home two patients (mother and son) got into the jeep and two other patients (son and father) accompanied the ambulance in bike. The driver was so much concerned about the mother, who was finding it very difficult and hence constantly gave instructions and also consoled her throughout journey to the covid care centre. On reaching the covid centre, which is run by us, the driver asked the mother to get down herself from the van. The mother found it difficult to get down. But the driver insisted her to get down herself and that she can definitely do it. With some assistance, she herself got down from the ambulance, which gave her lot of confidence that she is alright. This was what exactly the driver expected and he was successful in instilling confidence in her.

It was a real show of empathy on the part of the driver, going beyond the call of duty.
