New Delhi. The first batch of 60 Bharatiya nationals rescued by Embassy (Bharatiya) in Cambodia from fraudulent employers returned to Bharat. In a social media post, the Embassy of Bharat in Phnom Penh thanked the Cambodian authorities for their support. It assisted the 60 victims of fraudulent employment to return home, and helped with the legal paperwork.

The repatriated individuals formed the first such group of Bharatiya nationals, the mission said, suggesting that more such citizens could return from Cambodia in the coming days.

As per an earlier communique by the Bharat’s embassy, several Bharatiya nationals had approached it after being forced into cybercrime rings by trafficking rackets. The distressed citizens were rescued by local authorities from Sihanoukville on May 20 after the matter was taken up with Cambodian officials at the highest level, the embassy had said on May 21.

“The Embassy has been issuing several Advisories to alert Bharatiyas seeking jobs in Cambodia cautioning them not to fall prey to unauthorized agents. Bharatiya nationals have been cautioned to not indulge in practices contrary to the purpose for which the Visa is granted by the host government such as seeking employment on a ‘Tourist Visa’. They have also been advised to not undertake illegal cyber-crimes and reach out to the Embassy and Cambodian hotline numbers,” the Bharat’s embassy had said in a press release.
