Aluva, Kerala (VSK). Veer Savarkar’s picture on the banner erected at Nedumbassery to welcome Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra has sparked controversy.
Due to controversy the picture was hidden by Gandhiji’s picture. The inclusion of Savarkar’s picture among the freedom fighters on the big arch erected by the Congress Chengamanad Mandalam Committee near the Nedumbassery Airport Junction caused controversy among a section of Congressmen. With this, just before Rahul arrived, Mahatma Gandhi’s picture was hung and Savarkar’s picture was hidden.
The incident took place is neighbour village of Congress MLA Anwar Sadat in Aluva. The banner was installed under the leadership of the former Chengamanad Panchayat President. Congress leadership suspended INTUC Chengamanad constituency president Suresh Athani in the incident.
