Kochi (VSK). There are several tricks that prisoners play for getting parole. Pretext of sickness of himself, parents and siblings, and so on. But, K. Dhaneesh, a CPM worker who serves life term in connection with hacking an RSS worker Pramod to death, has been given permission, for full time research, by the Syndicate of Kerala University. Syndicate, allegedly CPM-dominated, is reported to have instructed University Registrar to take necessary steps in this regard. If the “researcher” submits the research registration documents before the court and the government, he or she can avail the liberties of parole for five years of research period. That is why the permission was granted. Once he gets the admission, Dhaneesh will be eligible for five years’ fellowship. It is reported that research has been transferred from Kannur University to Kerala University.
There are reports, University’s concerned officials had taken a stand that a researcher should spend total research period of five years, under a guide, if he means “full time researcher”. And, a prisoner serving jail term cannot be a full- time researcher. But Syndicate reportedly overruled this convention and gave him permission. Dhaneesh got parole during Corona period and he completed two-year LLM of Kannur varsity. He had obtained special parole for the coaching class for UGC Net Examinations. Then he applied for Kerala varsity’s research admission. University blocked his registration as he failed to do the online submission of application and related documents. However, he informed the varsity that there was no online facilities in jail hence he could not file online. Accordingly, Syndicate took the aforementioned decision.
Save University Campaign Committee has submitted a memorandum, before the Vice Chancellor, demanding the cancellation Dhaneesh’s admission. They also demanded the re-scrutiny of the answer paper of research entrance examinations. Memorandum says, admission for the research entrance, for those who serve jail terms after getting convicted for criminal offences, would give a wrong message to the society.
According to reports, court found that an eleven members team led by Dhaneesh murdered RSS worker Pramod on August 16, 2007. Thallassery Additional District Sessions Court sentenced all the accused for life. CPM and the LDF government are trying their best to release him from jail raising one pretense or other, a blatant violation of rules by abusing the power.
