New Delhi. ED has provisionally attached movable properties worth Rs. 95.25 lakhs in the form of balance in the bank account of Dr. SM CSI Medical College, Karakonam as an equivalent amount of proceeds of crime in the case of cheating the parents in the pretext of giving admission to their wards to MBBS/PG seat in Dr. SM CSI Medical College, Karakonam.
ED initiated money laundering investigation on the basis of multiple FIRs registered by Vellarada PS and Crime Branch PS, Kerala. Investigation by ED revealed that amounts were collected from parents in the pretext giving admission to their wards to Dr. SM CSI Medical College, Karakonam however admissions were not given even after taking money. Further, part of the said cash was used for developing infrastructure of Dr. SM CSI Medical College, Karakonam and remaining amount was diverted to the parent organisation i.e. South Kerala Diocese (SKD).
Investigation further revealed that Dr. Bennet Abraham and Most Rev. A. Dharmaraj Rasalam had by commission of scheduled offence, derived/obtained the proceeds of crime (POC) totalling to Rs. 95,25,000/-. However, as the proceeds of crime generated by Dr. Bennet Abraham and Most Rev. A. Dharmaraj Rasalam through the college was exhausted and is not available for attachment, an amount to the extent of Rs. 95,25,000/- from the bank account of the college is provisionally attached as an equivalent value of the proceeds of crime vide PAO dated 22.11.2022.
