Thousands sanitation worker’s children perform Sattriya dances
Guwahati. Over one thousand children belonging to the families of sanitation workers in the city performed in a spectacular cultural event titled ‘Joy of Life with the Rhythm of Equality’ with traditional attire at Khanapara veterinary college ground on Sunday (3 December 2023).
Organised by Valmiki Music School, run by Dr. Hedgewar Smarak Samiti, on the eve of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar’s death anniversary (6 Dec), the event witnessed Sattriya dances performed by 500 children and Bhortal Nritya by another 500 children. Later they collectively played Borgeet and also danced to the tune of Vande Matram. Many women sanitation workers also performed in front of a large gathering.

It may be mentioned that Valmiki Music School under the leadership of Ananya Talukder trained the children belonging to sanitation workers in 20 slum areas of Guwahati. Initiated with an aim to pay tributes to architect of the Constitution of Bharat and remind the citizens of their duty and responsibilities, the event was graced by a number of dignitaries including Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, Uttar Kamalabari Sattra’s Sattradhikar Janardan Devagoswami Ji, RSS’s Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh Sunil Ambekar along with the sanitation workers, where Nrityacharya Jatin Goswami was present as a special guest.
CM Sarma, who was present on the occasion, appreciated the organisers for the event encouraging the children of sanitation workers. Devagoswami pointed out that Srimanta Sankardev shaped the society with the ideology of Bharat and he emphasized on taking the Sattriya culture to the common people. Ambekar asserted that equality in the society can be achieved by collective social initiatives only.
