Lucknow. Sikh woman and her two sons were taken away by the friend of the victim’s deceased husband and forcefully converted the trio to Islam in Rampur district. Police have booked five persons for forcing a Sikh woman and her two minor sons to convert to Islam in Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh.
The woman identified as Harjinder Kaur had lost her husband in an accident in early May. After this, Mehfooz, who is the friend of Kaur’s husband, took the woman and her two sons aged 10 and 12 to his home at Berua village in Shahbad area of Rampur.
Mehfooz then forced them to convert to Islam by way of nikah with Harjinder Kaur and also allegedly got her two sons circumcised.
Police have now registered a case under Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion Act, Juvenile Justice Act and Epidemic Act and arrested three out of five accused. The prime accused Mehfooz is still on the run.
UP State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Chairman Dr. Vishesh Gupta, has taken cognisance of the case and visited the aggrieved family.
The family has now been shifted to a local Gurdwara under foster care as per rules.
“As we came to know about the forceful conversion of a woman in Shahbad area of Rampur, a case was filed under relevant sections and arrested three accused,” said Sansar Singh, Additional SP (Rampur).
