Kayamkulam, Kerala. The inauguration of the Health & Wellness Center, a premier initiative under the Union Ministry of Health, at Kayamkulam sparked controversy as it commenced with an Islamic religious prayer. A Ratheeb and Dua Majlis (prayer gathering) were conducted during the ceremony.
The event took place in the 43rd ward of Kayamkulam Municipality, governed by the CPM. Minister Saji Cheriyan inaugurated the center, while CPM MLA Pratibha Hari presided over the function.
BJP strongly criticized the inclusion of Islamic religious practices in a government event, arguing that it was a violation of the Constitution and the secular principles of the nation. BJP District President Sandeep Vachaspati alleged that this act insulted the country’s fundamental values and demanded immediate legal action against those responsible.
He further questioned whether the ward, won by the Muslim League, had been declared an Islamic state by the CPM. “Has the Pinarayi government officially replaced the Indian Constitution with Sharia law in Kayamkulam Municipality? If not, strict action must be taken against those who conducted such religious rituals at an official government function,” he said.
Accusing the CPM-Muslim League alliance of subverting the Constitution, the BJP announced that it would organize strong public protests against such communal divisions.
