Chennai. The Indian Union Muslim League will join hands with the 11,000 Mahalla Jamaaths, attached to mosques, in Tamil Nadu to prevent “misguided, frustrated” Muslim youth from joining extremist outfits.
IUML State president Kader Mohideen said here on Saturday that the initiative would be implemented through ‘Shariath Panchayat’ to be set up for giving counselling to settle family issues, and through Bait-Ul-Mal, a corpus to help the poor youth. The money donated to Bait-Ul- Mal would fund the education of the poor and encourage Muslim youth to take up community services.
Elections
Mr. Mohideen said the party had started an intensive membership enrolment drive in the State. “We are aiming to have a 10-lakh membership base by December-end. Once the drive is over, elections to the ward- and State-level committees of the party will be held in January,” he said.
