Kerala – 4 held, including a former SFI leader, for smuggling 100 kg ganja in an SUV

Thiruvananthapuram. Reports say that about 100 kg of ganja was confiscated from an SUV in Thiruvananthapuram. Four were arrested in the case, including a former SFI leader.

The arrested are Ratheesh of Menilam, Vishnu, Ratheesh from Thiruvallam and Akhil. Akhil is said to have told the police that he was the former SFI unit president of the Vanchiyoor Sanskrit Center in 2019. He is a native of Neyyanttinkara.

According to the media reports, the gang had hired the SUV on the pretext of going for a family trip to Kanyakumari. A woman and two children were also present in the vehicle.

However, they went to Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh to procure the ganja and planned to sell it in Kerala. However, the owner of the SUV felt suspicious of the car’s movement as he was monitoring it on the GPS. He then informed the Excise about his suspicion.

The vehicle was surrounded when it reached Kannettumukku by a team of officers, who were following the vehicle after it crossed over into Kerala. The women and the two children who travelled along with the gang managed to escape after the vehicle was surrounded.
