Kerala (VSK). Both ruling CPM-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) and opposition have joined together to pass a unanimous resolution against Uniform Civil Code (UCC) on August 8. It is not at all a surprise, as both have shown this sort of camaraderie in the past. They have done the same against Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 and the abrogation of Article 370 in Kashmir.
BJP state president K. Surendran alleged that both Fronts try for religious polarisation. They are appeasing a section and utilise assembly as a tool for it. They challenge the Constitution and the Judiciary. The CM is ridiculing himself for initiating a resolution against UCC even before the Parliament has done any deliberations in this respect. They are challenging the people of the state by wasting the time for discussing UCC even though a draft bill is not available for discussion.
CM Pinarayi Vijayan and CPM has abandoned their all-time ideologue E.M. Sankaran Namboothiripad who always vehemently argued in favour of UCC while he was alive. Congress, the party which did not utter a word in the assembly, against the Speaker’s blasphemous comments against Lord Ganapati, is shedding crocodile tears for UCC. Everybody knows whom do they stand for. It is clear now that Jihadi forces remain as a bridge for Congress-CPM nexus. It will be opposed by Hindus, secular Muslims especially Muslim women.
