Following the dismissal of anticipatory bail plea by High Court, ex-principal secretary to Chief Minister, M Sivasankar has been taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday.
The High Court earlier today dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of Sivasankar in cases registered by ED and the Customs Department in connection with the high-profile gold smuggling case.
Sivasankar was taken into custody from Ayurveda hospital in Vanchiyoor who was earlier admitted after complaining of back pain. He is being taken to the ED office in Kochi and his arrest will be recorded by today evening.
The Enforcement Directorate brought M Sivasankar to their office in Kochi after he was taken into custody. Sivasankar, who was taken into custody in connection with the gold smuggling case, will be questioned by the ED today.
At the same time, Customs Department officials, who were probing the gold smuggling case are also reportedly present in the ED office and is interrogating Sivasankar.
In a major backlash to M Sivasankar, former principal secretary to Chief Minister, the High Court on Wednesday rejected the anticipatory bail plea in cases registered by the Customs department and Enforcement Directorate in connection with the gold smuggling case.
HC affirms his role in gold smuggling case
The High Court while dismissing the anticipatory bail plea of M Sivasankar said that he had to be careful while dealing with Swapna Suresh, accused in the gold smuggling. The court said that his role in the case was clear from the statements of the chartered accountant and Swapna Suresh and there was no impediment to his arrest.
The court asked Sivasankar to cooperate with the interrogation as there are enough evidence with the ED.
