Kollam, Kerala. An attack occurred against RSS swayamsevaks in Karunagappalli, Kollam district, resulting in injuries to three swayamsevaks. The incident took place at Puthiyakavu junction on Sunday evening, shortly after the swayamsevaks had attended the Path Sanchalan (route-march) in Karunagappalli. In this attack, Akshay, Mithun Lal, and Kiran sustained injuries.

The injured individuals were admitted to Karunagappalli Taluk Hospital for treatment. Following the incident, the police initiated an investigation and collected statements from the affected members and their families.

Later, all the accused, arrested in connection with the attack on RSS workers. The arrested individuals, identified as Noufal and Ajmal, hailing from Kadathur, Thazhava in Karunagappalli, along with Yasim, a resident of Kulasekharapuram. Notably, one of them has a history of involvement in multiple criminal cases.

The altercation began when the accused engaged in a heated argument with an RSS worker named Akshay, who had arrived in Puthiyakavu after the pathsanchalana. Subsequently, Akshay Kumar and his friend, who were accompanied by friends, were intercepted and physically assaulted by the accused. Following the incident, the accused managed to evade the police. It was challenging to identify the culprits due to their two-wheeler lacking a number plate and their mobile phones being switched off. Also, CCTV footage wasn’t available to aid the investigation.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police for Karunagappally has stated that an investigation is underway to determine whether a conspiracy was involved in the attack.

Earlier this month, a house owned by an RSS swayamsevak was bombed in Thalassery, Kannur district. Shaji Sreedharan, a resident of Kodiyeri in Thalassery, was the target of the attack. His house and a car parked in front of his house were also damaged in the attack. Concerns have been raised regarding the ongoing police investigations, as no arrests have been made in connection with this incident.

Allegations are circulating, suggesting that the continuous attacks on RSS workers are a result of the police force’s alleged inability to address the issue in the state.
