Kochi. Dr. K.S. Radhakrishnan, former Vice Chancellor of Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit and former Chairman of Kerala Public Service Commission, said that what media do these days is confront with the facts. They present their aspirations and wishes as facts. Therefore, they lost their credibility, the most significant capital the media require. Media profession should not be for controversy, but, for debate and interaction. Controversy is to argue and win; but debate and interaction are for knowing and making others know. It is Bharat’s Samskriti. Dr. K.S. Radhakrishnan was speaking on “Truth and Untruth in Media” in connection with the Narada Jayanti Celebrations organised by Vishwa Samvad Kendra.

Dr. Radhakrishnan said that the people who flaunt the claim that ‘this is Kerala’ do not present the facts. Some people claim that they brought renaissance in the state. But no politician had any role in creating Kerala’s renaissance. Credit for Kerala’s renaissance goes to Brahmananda Sivayogi, Chattambi Swamy, Sreenarayana Guru, Fr. Chavara alias Chavarayachan and Pandit Karuppan.

Kerala’s premier educational institutions were founded before 1947. That itself exposes the propaganda of the politicians.

He said that when Indira Gandhi ordered to ‘stop talk and work hard’, the media in Kerala said, they do not even need the tongue! And, they gladly crawled. They still claim that ‘this is Kerala’. Swadeshabhimani Ramakrishna Pillai wrote three editorials to criticise C. Rajagopalachari for declaring that school admission should not be denied on the basis of caste discrimination.

Rajasekhara Panicker honoured senior journalist and writer K.G. Jyothirghosh. Jyothirghosh said that these days, media flow along the current of society instead of guiding its thought process. At the moment, every individual is a media hence media should be a serious profession. It is essential for maintaining the credibility. Bharatiya philosophy always encourages experiments and investigations. But, semitic religions are faith-centric. He added that media profession can be made fruitful though critical thoughts.

Rajasekhara Panicker said, in his presidential address, that Devarshi Narada was a great personality who dared to present truth before any one for the sake of the welfare of the entire world. Debate and interaction are part and parcel of Bharatiya culture. Adi Sankaracharya’s life is the apt example for this.

K.R. Umakantan presented Prof. M.P. Manmadhan Puraskar to V.P. Shailan, Reporter, Mathrubhumi Malayalam daily. K.B. Sreekumar, general manager of Janmabhumi Malayalam daily and RSS Dakshina Kerala Sah Prant Karyavah, delivered Prof. M.P. Manmadhan memorial speech. He pointed out that M.P. Manmadhan is a great personality who carried the wave of dharma throughout the life. He launched relentless war against the wrong tendencies in the society. He took the stand against the society which considered alcohol as the prestige symbol. Sreekumar said, Prof. Manmadhan had the farsightedness to conceive that the future of Bharat would be based on spirituality and culture.

RSS Dakshin Kshethra Prachar Pramukh J. Sreeram presented mementos to the guests.
