Kochi/Chennai.

Keralite has been arrested, by NIA, from Sathyamangalam forests. Thrissur native Ashif is arrested for allegedly funds for Islamic States (IS). He has reportedly given statement that large scale robberies had been designed to raise funds for terrorism. Ashif is said to be a crucial link among the fund raisers of IS.

Based on credible inputs and investigations, NIA conducted an intelligence-led joint operation with Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Kerala Police, and searched four locations following the arrest of one accused. The raids were conducted at three locations in Thrissur and one in Palakkad districts of Kerala to bust the IS module, which had been conducting reconnaissance missions and conspiring to commit terrorist attacks.

Ashif and his team have collected funds through Telegram Group also. NIA has said that detailed inquiry is in progress and they would be able to disclose more information soon.

NIA has been keenly observing some suspects in the light of the information that IS terror groups are present in Kerala. During this time, they got information regarding some extremists who have been collecting funds for IS and plotting large scale robberies for it.

NIA officials from Kochi have been camping in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and carrying out investigation since they got the news that some Keralite IS men had crossed to those two states. When Ashif got wind of NIA inquiry he moved to Sathyamangalam forests. NIA team from Kochi got hold of him from there. Court has remanded him. NIA has geared up to get his custody and interrogate him in detail.

The arrest of Ashif underlines the validity of the year’s long allegations by RSS, BJP and other Hindu and nationalist forces that Kerala is a safe haven for fundamentalist forces. Reports of Kerala links have been in news whenever a terror activity takes place anywhere in Bharat or even abroad. Coimbatore, Bengaluru, Sri Lanka and Paris blasts are a few examples.
