Kerala. Despite Governor’s order, in his capacity as the Chancellor of the Kerala varsities, to resign before 11.30am this morning, October 24, VCs did not resign. There are reports that they are seeking the legal advice from the Advocate General of the state.

Meanwhile Chancellor has warned the VCs that they will be served with the Show Cause Notice if they do not resign. Raj Bhavan will publish a list of the alternative professors to take over as the VC. Chancellor had made it clear that Raj Bhavan order was to comply with the UGC regulations upheld by the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile CPM Supremo and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that Governor is misusing the power of the Chancellorship. Addressing a press conference, CM told (October 24) that Governor’s actions are causing damage to the universities. Governor has no right to seek the resignation of the VCs. He is a wielding a power which he really does not possess. He repeated his usual rhetoric that Governor’s actions are to implement RSS agenda in the varsities.

When media men approached Governor, he told them that whoever wants to hear his version should get in touch with Raj Bhavan and get it. Because, he does not know who is the genuine journalist and who masquerades.

All the nine VCs are moving a petition in Kerala High Court challenging the Governor’s order. High Court holds a sitting, despite being Deepawali Holiday, to hear the petition.
