SewaDiwali food donation in North Carolina

Hunger is one of the worse things to face by the families in the communities. Rising inflation and increase food cost made many underprivileged families to sleep hungry.

The COVID-19 pandemic and unemployment has increased food insecurity amongst families with children. According to United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), in 2021 alone, 10.2% or 13.5 million US households were food-insecure.

To combat this problem, the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh and Sewa International, in collaboration with over 30 organizations in the RTP area includes Dharmic centers, spiritual and linguistic organizations and socio-cultural organizations hosts a massive food drive campaign during the festival of Diwali as it pertains to the Hindu Festival, Diwali.

SewaDiwali food drive is being conducted every year throughout the United States as an attempt to chase away the darkness of hunger and provide the great start to the holiday season.

On November 19, 2022, these Organization’s local RTP chapters made their donations to a local Food Bank, Durham, NC. These organizations made a large donation of over 5,000 (estimated) pounds of non-perishable food, mobilized over 100 volunteers to make a difference in the society.

In the year 2021, this campaign was run in 31 states, collecting over 590,000 pounds of food items and donated to 315 food pantries, soup kitchens across 200+ townships throughout the USA. This year more towns are participating in this noble cause.
