Syed Nabeel Ahmed, the alleged mastermind of the Thrissur IS case, has been arrested after attempting to evade capture by fleeing to Nepal. His arrest took place in Chennai, thwarting his plans to leave the country. Ahmed was identified as the leader of the IS module based in Thrissur.

While on the run, Ahmed had been hiding in various locations across Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, making efforts to escape using forged documents. However, the NIA successfully intervened, preventing his escape. It was previously revealed that the IS had devised plans for potential attacks in Kerala. In response, the NIA had undertaken a series of arrests related to the case in July, including that of Ashraf, also known as Ashraf, who was apprehended from a hideout near Sathyamangalam in Tamil Nadu.

Charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) were registered in this case, initiated on July 11. The NIA’s investigation revealed that the Thrissur-based IS module had plotted to carry out terrorist activities within Kerala. Additionally, the IS was found to have engaged in illicit activities, such as extortion, to generate funds in support of its operations.
