Kochi, Kerala. The leadership of the Muslim community should clarify whether the Vavar Mosque in Erumeli is recognized as part of the Islamic faith, stated VHP state president Viji Thampi and general secretary V.R. Rajasekharan.
Recently, M.S. Noushad, convenor of the Changanassery Mahal Committee, mentioned during a discussion on a private channel that Vavar Swami is not part of Islamic belief. He stated that neither Vavar Swami’s way of life nor his resting place, the tomb, has any connection with Islamic beliefs.
The VHP leaders have requested that scholars and leaders of organizations like Samastha clarify whether this is indeed the stance of the Muslim community. They also pointed out that although ancient records show no link between Lord Ayyappa and Vavar, it is a long-standing tradition for Ayyappa devotees going to Sabarimala to visit the Vavar Mosque in Erumeli and break coconuts there.
If Islam does not recognize Vavar Swami, how can Hindus accept him under the banner of Islam, questioned the VHP leaders.
