World Celebrates International Day of Yoga

Reports of Yoga Day celebrations pouring in from across the World.

The 10th International Day of Yoga is being celebrated across the globe today. In Bharat the main function was held at Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the celebrations from Srinagar. J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Minister Prataprao Ganpatrao Jadhav and many other dignitaries joined the programme. Globally, Embassies and Indian Missions abroad will join the celebrations, reflecting yoga’s widespread influence.

President Droupadi Murmu has extended her greetings to the global community, especially fellow citizens of Bharat, on the occasion of the 10th International Yoga Day. In a social media post, the President said that Yoga is Bharat’s unique gift to humanity. She added, in view of rising lifestyle-related problems, Yoga has become far more important today. The President stressed that Yoga is a way to physical, mental and spiritual well-being. President urged people to adopt yoga as an integral part of day-to-day living.

Officers and jawans from the Border Security Force (BSF) performed Yoga at the Last Post of the International Border in RS Pura Sector in Jammu and Kashmir, while Army jawans also performed Yoga at Col Sonam Wangchuk Stadium in Leh, Ladakh.

Students at the University of Delhi also performed Yoga at the Multipurpose Hall on the North Campus of the university.

In Uttarakhand, Yog Guru Baba Ramdev along with Acharya Balkrishna performed yoga in Haridwar. Children and many other people joined them to celebrate International Day of Yoga.

Times Square Hosts International Day of Yoga Celebrations

As part of the 10th International Day of Yoga celebrations, about ten thousand people from different countries performed yoga at the iconic Times Square in New York City on Thursday. The Consulate General of India in New York, along with the Times Square Alliance organised a day-long celebration, in which people showcased high enthusiasm for Yoga. The event featured seven Yoga sessions.

The Consul General Binaya Pradhan greeted the participants, highlighting the benefits of Yoga for both physical health and spiritual well-being, as well as its role in promoting harmony with nature.

International Day of Yoga Celebrations at Galle Fort (Sri Lanka)

In Sri Lanka, International Day of Yoga is being observed at historic Galle Fort. The Consulate General of India at Hambantota has made arrangements for the celebrations at the UNESCO world heritage site at Galle. On the occasion, over 300 people from various walks of life are participating. The High Commission of India in Sri Lanka is observing the International Day of Yoga with a ten-day long Yoga Mahotsav. The last programme under the Mahotsav is being held tomorrow at Galle Face Green.

Yoga Practice in Three Iconic Places in Pokhara (Nepal)

On the eve of International Day of Yoga 2024, the Embassy of India in Nepal organised Yoga demonstrations at three iconic landmarks of Pokhara.

The events commenced with a sunrise Yoga session at the scenic Sarangkot viewpoint offering the participants breathtaking views of the Annapurna mountain range.

This was followed by a Yoga demonstration at the revered Shiva Temple at Pumdikot near Pokhara. The Shiva Temple at Pumdikot, known for its tranquil ambience and majestic views, provided an ideal backdrop for the event, with participants connecting with nature and spirituality, enhancing the overall experience of the Yoga practice.

The Embassy also organised a special Yoga demonstration at the Shanti Stupa in Pokhara which is the first World Peace Pagoda in Nepal situated on the picturesque Anadu Hill. The events drew participants from different walks of life, including government officials, local citizens, and yoga enthusiasts, all coming together to embrace the benefits of this ancient practice, in line with this year’s theme of “Yoga for Self and Society”.

The 10th edition of International Day of Yoga was celebrated across Nepal today with the practice of yoga sessions in the morning. The Embassy of India in Kathmandu organised a yoga practice session in Pokhara in association with Pokhara Metropolitan City and Patanjali Yogpeeth. Chief Minister of Gandaki province Surendra Raj Pandey said that Yoga plays an important role in a healthy lifestyle. The government of Gandaki Pradesh is obligated to spread awareness of yoga with a theme of “my health, my responsibility”.

Dubai Residents Embrace Yoga at Dusit Thani Dubai

Dubai residents embraced wellness with over 150 people participating in the International Day of Yoga celebrations held at Dusit Thani Dubai, organised by the Art of Living Foundation. The event, part of global celebrations marking the 10th International Day of Yoga, highlighted the growing popularity of Yoga in the UAE and its diverse, health-conscious community.

The Embassy of India in Riyadh, in collaboration with the Saudi Yoga Committee and the Ministry of Sports of Saudi Arabia, organized an International Seminar on Yoga yesterday as part of the 10th International Day of Yoga celebrations.

The seminar was presided over by Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan, the Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia. Ms. Nouf Al-Marwai, President of the Saudi Yoga Committee and a Padma Shri awardee, and Ms. Rajashree Choudhary, President of the International Yoga Sports Federation, were the event’s chief guests.

Ambassador Khan spoke about the expanding popularity of Yoga practices worldwide and its significance for both personal and societal well-being. Other distinguished speakers discussed various Yoga-related topics, including its promotion in the Gulf area, its potential for future wellness, its effectiveness in treating psychosomatic diseases, and its development as a competitive sport.

The event also featured documentary screenings on the history of Yoga and the International Day of Yoga.

Bangladesh – High Commission of India Hosts Grand Yoga Events

The High Commission of India in Bangladesh organised a grand Yoga event at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium, Mirpur, in Dhaka on the occasion of International Yoga Day. Addressing Yoga enthusiasts assembled at the venue, acting High Commissioner Dr. Binoy George said that Yoga can serve as a unifying force, promoting physical and mental well-being among the people of India and Bangladesh.

Thirteen yoga associations including Bangladesh Yoga Association, Quantum Foundation, Joysan Yoga, Bangladesh Yoga Sangha and ITEC Yoga Alumni Association of Bangladesh took part in the main event. Bangladesh State Minister for Cultural Affairs Naheed Ezaher Khan, celebrities from different fields and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

The Yoga Day programme was also held at the Hamdard University of Dhaka and many other places in the city.

The events relating to Yoga Day started in Bangladesh three weeks back when Yoga organisations organised big and small events in the run-up to the main event.

There are many other Yoga Day-related events scheduled to be held over the coming week across Bangladesh as people show great attraction to Yoga.
