Shimla, 19 December.
Prominent social, religious and human rights organisations of Himachal Pradesh under the banner of Defenders of Human Rights, submitted a memorandum, addressed to the Secretary General the United Nations to Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla. They demanded the security of Hindu and other minorities in Bangladesh. The Governor said, “I will forward it to the President of India for necessary action”.
While highlighting the violation of human rights of these communities, they have petitioned the UN to form an enquiry commission and ask the Norwegian Nobel Committee to withdraw Nobel Peace Prize Awarded to Muhammad Yunus.
A delegation led by Defenders of Human Rights along with members of other different organisations met the Governor today and expressed their deep angst against the incidences of murder, rape, arson and destruction of temples in Bangladesh. In the memorandum, they have demanded the UN to openly condemn human rights violations against Hindus and minority communities. They have also demanded from the UN to form a high-level commission to investigate these atrocities and share the findings of the enquiry with the international community.
In the memorandum, it is also demanded from the UN General Secretary to put pressure on the Bangladesh government to ensure the safety of Hindu and Buddhist communities, reinstate their status in the society and rebuild the temples that have been destroyed.
The delegation included Ram Krishna Mission Shimla; RSS, VHP, Defenders of Human Rights; Umang Foundation; Rashtra Sevika Samiti; ABVP, Devbhumi Sangharsh Samiti; Bhartiya Kisan Sangh, and Sood Sabha.
