Torture of child devotees in Sabarimala – Child Rights body summons Thiruvananthapuram DC
The National Child Rights Commission has sent a notice to Thiruvananthapuram district collector to be present at its Delhi office at 11 am on January 22 and submit a detailed report in writing concerning the complaints lodged by the children regarding the torture they suffered in Sabarimala. The Commission has expressed its severe dissatisfaction over the collector’s failure to furnish the report by November 15, 2018. The children and their parents had complained that they were assaulted by policemen on duty in Sabarimala during the Chithira Aatta Vishesham in Sabarimala in November. In fact, the members of the Commission had been to Kerala and collected evidence and information regarding the atrocities the victims had suffered. It was too shocking that the parents were brutally beaten in front of their children.
The victims had complained to the Thiruvananthapuram district collector in November itself since they belonged to the district although the crime happened in Pathanamthitta district. The complainants sent a detailed complaint along with visuals and pictures to NCRC as the collector did not take any action.
