Warangal. Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal karyakartas on Sunday took exception to Christians performing prayers inside Hindu temples that were built by the Kakatiya dynasty at Fort Warangal. Sitting on a dharna, they demanded action against those who had organised the programme, which they said was “an insult to Hindu gods.”

They went to the mills Colony police station to lodge a complaint with Deputy Commissioner of Police Srikant Rao and ACP Ramala Sunitha. Later, speaking to the media, they alleged that local Hindus were worried on coming to know of the mass prayers right inside the Ramalayam and Swayambhu Ramalingeshwara Swamy temple near Gundu Cheruvu.

Inside the Ramalayam there are ‘pada mudras’ and shanku chakras’ of Lord Ram, and the annual Mahashivaratri festival at the temple is a popular event. How can the Christian community organise mass prayers in front of the temple and have non-vegetarian food, they asked. Such incidents would lead to religious disturbances and spoil the peaceful atmosphere that prevails in the vicinity. If officials failed to take action, VHP and other Hindu organisations would launch an agitation, they warned.

Those who spoke included Sriram Uday Kumar, Bandi Rohit Yadav, S. Sairam, Aditya Sai, P. Sandeep Reddy and Koteshwar.
