Puducherry – NIA Special Court Convicts and Sentences Six TNLA Terrorists in Pipe Bomb Case

Puducherry. NIA Special Court, Puducherry convicted six accused persons for their involvement in this case, namely, i. Thiruselvam @ Murasu @ Sankar, r/o Madurai, Tamil Nadu State. ii. Thangaraj @ Tamilarasan, r/o Sivagangai, T.N iii. Kaviyarasan @ Raja, Sivagangai District, TN iv. Kalailingam, Sivagangai District, Tamil Nadu State. v. Karthik, S/o. r/ o Madurai, TN vi. John Martin, r/o Ramnad District, TN.

The case was originally registered at Odiansalai Police Station, Puducherry and was subsequently taken up by Crime Branch, Puducherry and thereafter NIA had re registered the same. After investigation, NIA had filed Charge Sheet against above six accused persons on 30.09.2014. 3. Investigation by NIA had revealed that accused Thiruselvam @ Murasu @ Sankar, an active member of Tamil Nadu Liberation Army (TNLA), a proscribed terrorist Organization, was conducting a series of conspiracy meetings at Odaikkal village, Ramnad District at the residence of co-accused John Martin besides at Siravayal village in Sivagangai District with associates Thangaraj @ Thamizharasan, Kaviarasan @ Raja, Kalailingam @ Kalai, Karthik @ Aadhi @ Jeeva and John @ John Martin.

Investigation established that the accused persons had conspired against the Government of India to cause IED explosion in the form of pipe-bombs.

NIA Spl. Court, Puducherry held the above six accused persons guilty and convicted Thiruselvam @ Murasu @ Sankar, Kaviyarasan @ Raja, Kalailingam, Karthik and John Martin to 7 years of Rigorous Imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs.3500/- each and convicted Thangaraj @ Tamilarasan to 5 years of Rigorous Imprisonment and Rs.3000/- under various sections of IPC, Unlawful Activity (Prevention) Act, 1967 and Explosive Substances Act, 1908.
