Guwahati/Agartala. The Border Security Force (BSF) has arrested 36 individuals, including 29 Bangladeshi nationals and seven Indian nationals, in a series of coordinated operations conducted across Tripura between March 6 and March 10, 2025. The arrests were made in connection with illegal border crossings and involvement in smuggling activities.
The operations, carried out by the BSF Tripura Frontier, spanned multiple locations across the state, including the Airport Police Station, Nischintapur under Amtali Police Station, Harnakhola under Mohanpur Police Station, Agartala Railway Station in West Tripura District, Churaibari and Dharmanagar Railway Stations in North Tripura District, Sabroom in South Tripura District, and LK Para in Gomati District. Among those arrested were several touts who facilitated illegal crossings.
In addition to the arrests, the BSF has intensified its efforts to engage with local communities by conducting over nine village coordination meetings in border areas. These meetings aim to address local concerns, foster cooperation, and strengthen border security measures.
A senior BSF official emphasized the force’s commitment to safeguarding the nation’s borders, stating, “We remain committed to securing our borders and ensuring the safety of our citizens. Our forces will continue their efforts to curb illegal infiltration and smuggling activities”.
The BSF’s heightened surveillance and ongoing operations underscore its dedication to maintaining border integrity and preventing unlawful activities. As the force continues its vigilant efforts, it remains a critical pillar in ensuring national security and protecting the interests of citizens in the region.
In a parallel effort to combat illegal infiltration, the Assam Police have also made significant strides in securing the Indo-Bangladesh border. On the night of March 9, 2025, Assam Police apprehended four Bangladeshi nationals – Abdul Kabir, Bodhiur Rahman, Md. Tayub, and Abdul Kalam – and promptly deported them back across the border. This action follows the arrest and deportation of another Bangladeshi national, Ashraful Haque, on the night of March 7.
Earlier, on March 6, Assam Police successfully detained four more individuals -Md. Rafiq, Md. Salim, Jakir Hossain, and Md. Saidur – and ensured their swift pushback. These operations highlight the continued vigilance of Assam Police in maintaining a strict watch along the border and preventing unauthorized crossings.
The coordinated efforts of both the BSF and state police forces underscore the ongoing commitment to securing India’s borders and curbing illegal activities.
