Kerala (VSK). SFI leader’s ‘impersonation’ case in Kattakkada (Thiruvananthapuram) is now in a new twist; it is the manipulation of the impersonated SFI leader A. Vysakh’s age. Reports suggest that according to FIR registered by the police, in connection with the case, Vysakh is 19 whereas university records say 25! Reports say, he completed 24 in December 2022. According to Kerala University Rules, students above 24 cannot contest to the position of a University Union office bearer. Now, there are complaints that police try to help the man by recording a reduced age. There were allegations about the involvement of couple of CPM MLAs in the issue.

We had reported the following news, from Kattakkada Christian College, Thiruvananthapuram, last week.

The whole issue can be boiled down as follows –

An SFI girl was elected as University Union Councillor from the College. But her name was not forwarded to the Varsity as the successful candidate. Principal communicated the name of A. Vysakh, another SFI worker, as the Councillor. He filed the nomination for the position of Varsity Union Chairman; he was the Area Secretary of SFI, who is not at all a Councillor. He had not even contested the college union election. As the issue was exposed and it turned controversial, SFI leadership removed him from the organisational positions. SFI candidates Aromal (boy) and Anakha (girl) were the winners to the positions of University Union Councillors. But, principal-in-charge Dr. G.J. Shaiju, reported to be a member of the pro-Congress organisation, gave the name of A. Vysakh to the Varsity instead of Anakha. The impersonation is alleged to be the part of the SFI-CPM conspiracy to make Vysakh the Kerala University Union Chairman.

Now, the College has removed Dr. G.J. Shaiju from the position of the principal-in-charge. The management has decided to remove him from the teaching job. Dr. N.K. Nishad has been assigned to take charge of the position.  Management took the decision in compliance with the instructions from the Varsity authorities. As soon as Dr. Nishad took over, A. Vysakh has been suspended from the College.

College Management will appoint a committee to carry out a detailed enquiry into the issue. Police have started enquiry too. Documents pertaining to the impersonation will be examined before police resort to arrest. Statement of the University Registrar, the complainant, will be recorded. Then the police will have to collect evidence from the College. Vysakh is the first accused and the Dr. Shaiju the second.

As ABVP and KSU, took up the issue, Varsity had to move into action.
