Kochi. Kerala High Court on Tuesday banned the inclusion of political party representatives in temple administration committees of Devaswom Board.

The court made this ruling while adjudicating the plea against electing CPM local leaders as members of the administrative committee of Pookoottukalikavu Temple in Ottappalam, Palakkad, under the Malabar Devaswom Board. The court made it clear that the ruling applies to all temples under the Board.

HC also nullified the appointments of CPM and DYFI leaders to the Pookkottukalikavu Bhagavathi Temple administration in Palakkad.

The conditions laid out by the Malabar Devaswom Board was violated while making the appointments, the court observed. The HC also dismissed the argument that DYFI is not a political outfit. The court pointed out that those involved in active politics should not be appointed as non-hereditary trustees of temples.
