Chennai. Sri Joe D’Cruz Sahitya Akademi awardee, was the Chief guest at the Sanskrita Utsav organized by Sanskrita Bharati, on the occasion of the Sanskrita Day. Joe D Cruz, who hails from fishermen community, has brought to limelight the pangs of fishermen through his writing. He condemned the protests against Sanskrit as a continuation of the colonial mindset to disconnect Bharatiyas from their culture and their history. “The greatest scholars of Tamil literature, be it Thiruvalluvar or Kambar were well-versed in Sanskrit too,” he pointed out. He concluded his speech by reciting Gayathri Mantra. He appealed to one and all to work for giving Sanskritam its due place in society.
